The Institute

Nowadays, complex manufacturing systems and processes are designed in a virtual environment before their realization. To advance this trend, we generate in-depth knowledge of material behavior and develop advanced modelling and manufacturing techniques. From standard methodologies to Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, the Institute of Virtual Manufacturing deals with the engineering of virtual systems, which are beneficial to these design processes. These virtual methods are then used at different modelling scales depending on the respective application. Through the close collaboration with our industrial partners, e.g. Inspire AG, students have the possibility to apply the developed engineering methods in the context of industry projects.

Prof. Dirk Mohr

Computational Modelling of Materials

We are passionate about mechanical problems that involve very large deformations and catastrophic failure. This includes the full spectrum from quasi-static to extreme dynamic loading conditions. Read More

Prof. Markus Bambach

Advanced Manufacturing

Manufacturing engineering deals with the transformation of raw materials into useful products. It forms the basis for employment and prosperity in many developed countries. Read More
