CANCELLED - Forming Technology Forum 2020

by Julian Heidenreich

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Last summer we invited you to participate in the 13th Forming Technology Forum in Zurich at the End of May 2020.
Today, the development in connection with the Coronavirus worldwide and in particular in Switzerland, and the regulations stipulated by ETH Zurich and the Federal Health Office force us to cancel our conference. We deeply regret that this decision has become necessary, and we hope you can understand.

Of course, we will refund those participants who have already registered and paid the registration fee. For any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Currently we are evaluating several options to reschedule the conference to November or December of this year. We will provide further information about our plans within the next few weeks.

Best regards,

Prof. Pavel Hora

Forming technologies on the transformation path from virtual processes to smart and deep learning methods

For years, the forming technology community has been a successful pioneer in the field of numerical process simulations. To date, the virtual validation of processes integrated as a standardized step into the planning process was hardly used to such a large extent in any other manufacturing field. For this reason, many of the terms declared by Industry 4.0 as the future in manufacturing technology have already been continuously implemented in forming technology processes.

Artificial intelligence methods, based for example on deep learning algorithms, offer a completely new approach little known in manufacturing technologies. Compared to the often-used «exact sciences» in classical engineering, these methods represent an entirely new numerical approach. Thus, the vision is to develop tools with «artificial intelligence» as well as «self-learning systems» to be integrated into the manufacturing and planning process.

The conference will highlight the latest state of research of these technologies based on selected examples in the fields of «self-learning smart experiments», «self-correcting tools» and «self-learning quality control» as well as in other possible future domains.

Nevertheless, the classical numerical methods such as used by FEM programs will continue to be indispensable in the future. Therefore, the conference sessions « Digital best fit constitutive models » and «Development of digital twins» will focus on the latest developments in these classical numerical fields.
